Finding Balance: My Personal Guide to Avoiding Burnout - Wildflower Fire Coaching
Spread the love

This week, I’ve been feeling a bit frayed at the edges. A little irritable, a fraction overwhelmed, and a sprinkle of procrastination. Once upon a time, it was my husband who recognised the threads becoming loose, long before I did. These days, my burnoutometer is fairly finely tuned, and I know what I need to do to get back into balance.

😴 Prioritise Sleep

I’ve had a couple of nights this week with way under 5 hours of sleep. It’s not enough, and it quickly impacts my well-being if I don’t prioritise it. Ensuring I get enough rest is crucial for my mental and physical health. Sleep is the foundation of my energy and mood, and without it, everything else starts to unravel. I learnt this the hard way.

😁 Embrace Fun

I’ve talked to my family and friends about this weekend, and I’m already looking forward to it. Planning fun activities and spending time with loved ones helps me recharge and stay positive. Whether it’s a craft morning with a friend, taking the kids to the cinema or a walk with my husband, these moments of joy are essential for my mental health.

👩🏼‍💼 Manage Workload

My diary closes at the end of July for a month. I’m going to look through July and work out if there are any nice-to-haves and things that can be deleted, deferred, or delegated. This helps me manage my workload and avoid unnecessary stress. By being proactive and realistic about my commitments, I can ensure that I have the time and energy for what and who, truly matters.

🚫 Set Boundaries

I get requests every week to just “pick your brains,” “ask this question,” or “get a view on this.” I am going to prioritise the ones I get paid for and the people that I love, like, and respect. Setting boundaries is essential to maintaining my energy and focus. It’s about valuing my time and making sure that I’m not spreading myself way too thin. It’s a bad habit, that nice to be helpful thing, and I need to keep an eye on it.

💃🏼 Focus on Vitality

Good food, water, and movement are key. I prioritise movement daily, but my food and water intake isn’t where it needs to be, so I’m going to focus on those things. Taking care of my body helps me feel more energetic and balanced. Eating nutritious meals, staying hydrated, and incorporating regular exercise into my routine are non-negotiables for my well-being.

🌿 Practice Mindfulness

In addition to the above, I’ve found that practising mindfulness and meditation can be incredibly helpful. Taking a few minutes each day to breathe deeply, meditate, or simply be present in the moment helps me stay grounded and reduces stress. It’s a small investment of time that pays off in a big way.

📚 Engage in Hobbies

Engaging in hobbies and activities that I love also plays a crucial role in maintaining my balance. Whether it’s reading, gardening, painting, or any other passion, these activities provide a creative outlet and a break from the daily stuff and stuff. They remind me of the joy and fulfilment that comes from doing something purely for myself with no real attachment to the outcome.

📝 Reflect and Adjust

Finally, I make it a point to regularly reflect on my routines and adjust as needed. Life is dynamic, and what works one month might not work the next. By staying flexible and open to change, I can better navigate the ups and downs and maintain a sense of balance.
